To improve overall information and network security for the Rutgers community, the Office of Information Technology will be phasing-in new university-wide NetID password rules starting in November 2011. Users will be asked to set longer passwords of 10 to 63 characters. These passwords will expire in a specified timeframe requiring users to reset a new password every 12 months.
Given the scope of the project, it is expected to take up to a year to fully implement the required password changes to all constituent groups. However, beginning in November all voluntary, user initiated password resets will be required to follow the new rules.
